Coronavirus Places Weddings on Hold with Many Uncertain as to Next Steps

Apr 1, 2020

BROOKFIELD, Conn., April 2, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Wedding Planners at the Association of Bridal Consultants ("ABC") are "running full speed trying to re-schedule their client weddings and events originally set for March 15 through April 30," according to David Wood, ABC President. Mr. Wood estimates more than 320,000 weddings in the U.S. will need to be re-scheduled, from this six-week period alone. He estimates that these adjustments will delay more than $ 8 Billion in wedding-related spending, and impact more than 38 million guests.

"Marriage is always a series of tests, and we want our couples to pass this first one, wisely and safely," said Mr. Wood.  One challenge though, is that ABC members usually begin working on their client weddings about 18-months in advance, so many of the desired "re-set" dates are already taken.  "It just means that some couples will be looking at some Friday nights and Sunday afternoons, which can be just as much fun," advised Mr. Wood.

ABC is asking its venues to waive any cancellation fees, during this tough period.   While each contract is different, Mr. Wood says that a national pandemic such as the Coronavirus typically constitutes "Force Majeure" or an "Act of God" and presents "circumstances beyond the control of either party."  At the same time, Mr. Wood is encouraging all couples to be calm, "as they will get through this."

People looking to pick-up part-time income in the wedding industry, can take the ABC Professional Wedding Planner ("PWP") course and earn their ABC Certified Wedding Planner title.

Normally priced at $770, ABC is currently including the first-year membership, for those who order the course between April 1st and April 30th.  This 30% price reduction brings the total educational package down to only $550.

More information is available by calling the ABC main office in Connecticut at 203-775-0009, or by visiting www.BridalAssn.com or www.ABCWeddingPlanners.com or www.ABCAnnualConference.com. ABC has thousands of members, currently located in all 50 states and in 31 countries.   ABC members provide full-service wedding planning, and can also offer honeymoon and destination wedding services to their clients through the ABC Travel Division.    ABC has been serving the wedding industry since 1955.
