However, its minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said KPWKM must first ensure that the children’s parents and families can provide adequate and proper care. “For cases where the capability of the parents and families is clearly established, the reunification process can proceed without delay. As of yesterday, 560 children – 283 boys and 277 girls – had been placed in safe custody after the Social Welfare Department (JKM) obtained a temporary court custody order for two months under Section 25(2)(a) of the Child Act 2001. Meanwhile, Nancy said the Task Force Profiling Team for Op Global found that 94.3 per cent of the 558 profiled children had at least one living biological parent, while 5.7 per cent had no parents or no available information on their parents. Health assessments showed that 51.6 per cent of the children were underweight, falling below the healthy Body Mass Index (BMI), while 46.1 per cent had a normal weight and the remaining children were classified as obese, she added. “Three children have been issued persons with disabilities (PwD) cards, while 27 others display symptoms of disability,” she added. Cognitive assessments were also conducted on 385 children aged seven and above, with 71.9 per cent (277 children) showing no signs of cognitive disorders, she said. “However, 20.26 per cent (78 children) displayed moderate cognitive disorders, while 7.79 per cent (30 children) were found to have severe cognitive impairments,” Nancy said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The police (PDRM) have initiated investigations into companies linked to GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH), which are operating overseas. The fact remains, crimes against children have occurred,” he said.

He added that the export of medical devices was valued at RM20.15 billion, an increase of 25.7 per cent compared to RM16.02 billion in 2023. In his speech, Dr Hyzan said that medical device innovation presented an opportunity to improve healthcare while boosting the economy, with the industry projected to reach nearly US$2 billion by 2025, making it one of the fastest-growing sectors. “By focusing on innovation, we can create high-skilled jobs, reduce our dependence on imported technologies, and position Malaysia as a global leader. Last year, we spent US$5 billion on medical devices, with 95 per cent being imports. Our goal is to reduce this to 50 per cent within five years,” he said. He also emphasised that close collaboration among universities, innovators, manufacturers, clinicians, and government agencies was key to ensuring that ideas and research transitioned smoothly from laboratories to clinical applications and into the hands of healthcare providers. According to DBKL today, 60mm of rain was recorded during this time, which was well above average.

KUALA LUMPUR: Repair works are being carried out following a service disruption on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line, involving the track between Wangsa Maju and Sri Rampai Stations, which was caused by an unusual flow of rainwater that damaged several track components, said Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail). Rapid Rail as the operator of the Rapid KL rail service in a statement said that the incident occurred at 10.20 am which forced the operation to stop the power supply in the area involved to allow inspection and repair work to be carried out. “Repair works are being actively carried out by Rapid Rail’s technical team to ensure that services can be restored soon,“ according to the statement. For now, a feeder service has been activated between Gombak Station and Wangsa Maju Station. Trains from the direction of Putra Heights will turn back at Wangsa Maju Station. A total of 12 free feeder buses at a frequency of every 15 minutes are operating to ensure that passengers can continue their journey. “We hope that this repair work can be completed before the evening peak hour,“ said Rapid Rail. In addition, operation staff and auxiliary police personnel have been stationed at the stations involved to help facilitate the movement of affected passengers. Continuous announcements on the development of service status will be delivered through Rapid KL’s social media, at all stations, and on trains. Rapid Rail also informed that the latest development of service status will be announced at 3 pm. “Passengers are advised to plan their journeys and refer to Rapid KL’s social media to get the latest information on the service status of the Kelana Jaya LRT Line,“ said the statement. SHAH ALAM: A total of 12,519 cases involving offences under the Weights and Measures Act (ATS) 1972 were recorded by the enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) nationwide from 2020 to September this year. KPDN deputy-director of Enforcement (Prevention) Aris Mamat said the statistics reflected the ministry’s ongoing and proactive efforts to ensure that traders adhered to the integrity of weights and measures in buying and selling for the benefit of consumers. “KPDN is committed to protecting consumers and consistently ensuring that traders adhere to established standards. Those found to have committed irregularities or non-compliance will not evade strict enforcement actions. “A violation of the provisions under the ATS 1972 could result in a maximum fine of RM40,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both, and the court may also order the forfeiture of the weighing instrument,” he said today. He said this after heading a team of 20 KPDN enforcement officers to perform spot checks at three petrol stations around Kuala Selangor to ensure that the fuel charged to consumers matched the amount supplied through pump dispensers. Elaborating, Aris said that the ATS 1972 enforcement compliance inspections at petrol stations led to actions against the misuse of subsidised diesel fuel under Ops Tiris, resulting in the seizure of diesel valued at approximately RM16.5 million from January to September this year. “This brings the total amount of diesel seized from 2020 to 2024 to RM52.68 million,” he said. Commenting on today’s operation, Aris said that it focused on several key aspects, including the accuracy of oil pumps and meters, testing the volume of fuel dispensed, and reviewing the maintenance records of weighing and measuring equipment. He added that checks revealed all the petrol stations involved complied with the weighing and measuring regulations set. “Regarding the enforcement actions under the ATS 1972 in Selangor, we recorded a total of 283 cases from January to September last year, with confiscated items amounting to RM2.6 million,” he said.

SEPANG: The Sessions Court here today set Nov 26 for mention of a case involving a travel agency manager charged with attempting to murder his wife and causing severe injuries to her bodyguard. Judge Amir Affendy Hamzah set the date after lawyer Nik Azim Azlan, representing Hafizul Hawari, 38, requested a date for the defence to examine the documents including the chemical report submitted by the prosecution. On April 25 this year, Hafizul was charged with attempting to murder his wife, Farah Md Isa, 38, at the Arrival Hall, Level 3, Terminal 1, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 1.09 am on April 14. He was charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and a fine, upon conviction. If the act causes injuries, the jail term may be extended to 20 years. He is also charged with voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his wife’s bodyguard, Mohd Nur Hadith Zaini, 38, with a firearm that could have caused death, at the same location, date, and time. The charge, framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, provides a maximum imprisonment of 20 years, a fine or whipping, upon conviction.

Police order 20 houses vacated following landslide in Taman Melawati

KUALA LUMPUR: The police ordered the residents of 20 houses near the location of the landslide in Taman Melawati, Ampang due to heavy rain this morning to evacuate their homes. Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said all residents who were affected by the incident were ordered to evacuate to the Multipurpose Hall in Jalan E5 Taman Melawati for the time being. He said police received information about a landslide at the intersection of Jalan Serdang and Jalan E6 Taman Melawati at 10.30 am which caused 20 terrace houses to be cut off from the main road. “A car was damaged in the landslide and a guardhouse cabin was also overturned due to the falling debris, but no casualties were reported,“ he said in a statement today. Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said a team of six members and machinery from the Ampang Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene of the incident upon receiving the report at 11.42 am. “The team found that there had been a landslide on the hillside in an area of ??20x20 metres and a collapse of 30 metres high, but the incident did not involve victims or homes but there was still land movement in the area,“ he said in a statement this morning.
